ABOUT

I am an author and a history loving Registered Nurse, with a 30 year career in everything from ER, CCU, med-surg, pediatrics, geriatrics, hospice, and psychiatry to forensics. I am currently performing wellness screenings. I am a GA farm girl, transplanted, living in and loving the city life of Orlando, and the sleepy little fishing village style along the coasts.

I wrote “Red Clay and Roses”, a novel that explores civil rights, interracial relations, and women’s issues in the 1950s and 60s. Currently, I am working on a crime novel series. I plan to have three or four novels completed in The Naked Eye series before I publish.

I am also a wife, mother and grandmother, but I created this “About” page not to tell you about me, but for you to tell me about you. I’ve been blogging for a little over one year and, so far, I love it. I am also curious about you. What inspires you to blog and where do you come from?

I don’t profess to be a genius at anything at all. My husband, the rocket scientist, put that name on my blog as a joke when I was reading articles about branding.  I wanted a social blog to get to know writers and readers. I thought it was funny and it just sort of stuck.   What I am finding as I begin continue my blogging journey, is that there are zillions of geniuses out here. Whether it is a clever blog post, a photograph, book reviews, some other awesome artistic display, or a fantastically creative blog, it is comforting to know that I am surrounded by a myriad of geniuses.

Just when I began to despair about the direction of society as a whole, I found this whole community with it’s own brand of genius. I wanted to stake my claim, so I kept mybrandofgenius as the subtitle of my blog. I feel that I am in good company with a host of interesting people with meaningful stories, inspiring poetry, beautiful artwork, creative ideas, thoughts, suggestions, and useful information. I am fascinated by you! I am delighted to be here. I learn something every day and I laugh every day, two things that are required to survive in today’s world!

    1. I had edited my last work 11 times before publishing, including having it edited by three teachers and one college professor. I am such a perfectionist, that when I found that all of that editing had missed the capitalization of the “D” in dad, when it was NOT used as a proper noun…I actually unpublished and republished. It was glaring to me. I think that when I prepare my two works in progress I will hire some of that out…LOL.

      1. I can only imagine how frustrated you must have been to find a mistake after 11 edits! That particular one might have been avoided if all your editors had the same style guide (like Chicago Manual of Style, which is pretty much a bible in publishing). For your next work, you might send your first editor a style guide (see http://wp.me/p2IvJd-uU for more on this) and ask everyone who works on it to adhere to your preferred style and add to the list as they work–that way, you won’t find one person undoing another’s corrections. Perfectionists rule! 😉

    1. I agree, but more than anything are the incredibly interesting people, funny, witty, deep, sincere, and sometimes shallow, but all fascinating. Some of my best, dearest friends are the ones I have met on WP. They are closer to me than family in many ways.

I have an awards page and I think they are a cool way of letting the public in on a few details of your personal life that you might otherwise have not thought to share. I do get challenged by passing them on, sometimes though, honestly, because I am sometimes lazy.

    1. We raised cows, horses, ducks, chickens…and lots of vegetables. My grandmother started a horticulture business that has survived through four generation. The nursery started as she used to cook fried chicken dinners and take them to the sick on the prayer list at church. She always bragged on the flowers and shrubs at the homes we visited and they would always give her cuttings, which we would then take home and root. My uncle built her a greenhouse and things developed from there.

    Thank you for following my blog. I know how many interesting blogs are out there and feel honored that you picked mine to follow. I hope my stories entertain and inform and my photos bring you joy and wonderment.
    I travel mostly local but try to always find interesting places. I have lived in several different places and dig through my archives of photos to bring glimpses into places I have been. Sometimes I post a recipe because food tells a lot about culture.
    I am not a professional photographer, so my photos are sometimes a little fuzzy and there are telephone poles and wires and other things along with what I was photographing. The older photos are 35mm, the newer are point and shoot digital and a few are Samsung Smartphone.
    I am new to blogging so if you have any advice or critique please drop me a comment.

    1. I so agree with you and Mark Twain,. He is quoted also in the back of my book in the Afterword. I was following you already, but since I follow about 1000, I couldn’t find you to put you in my email, which I had to narrow down to about fifty, else all I would do is read email. I don’t always see what’s in my reader. Glad to have you on board and will probably be stopping by more frequently now that I have you in mail.

    1. Thank you D. I had planned to self publish all along with my new crime novel. Signing up for Sleuth Fest made me reconsider, and your post makes me reconsider again. I’ve been writing a synopsis, having it edited, working on a pitch and log-lines (my blurb was already completed)…and it’s a lot of work. I’m asking myself if I really need the added pressure of working under someone else’s deadlines. It’s a series that I’m selling, so there will be an expectation to pump out material with little control over how it’s presented or promoted. IDK. It’s much to consider.

      1. There is much to consider, but no choice locks you in forever either.It’s anxiety-provoking in the beginning. Then you learn the ropes, get comfortable with the rollercoaster, and adjust. The main thing is to remember this is fun!
